Noah trusted God even when it seemed foolish
Abraham was willing to sacrifice everything in order to follow God because he believed God’s promises
Hebrews 11:22 By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones. NKJV
1. Bragging to his brothers
2. Betting on the butler (???)
What made Joseph a superhero?
Joseph did not allow the actions of others to control his attitude
Rather than allowing that to happen, Joseph kept his focus on God
Joseph did not allow his circumstances to control his actions
When he was sold into slavery, Joseph responded by working hard for Potiphar
When he was improperly put into prison, Joseph responded by standing out as a model prisoner
When he stood before Pharaoh, Joseph responded by putting the focus upon God’s power rather than his own situation
What can we learn about our extraordinary God?
He is with us even in the darkest times
Joseph understood that God is as lovingly involved in the seeming silences as He is in the momentary miracles
He knew that the presence of pain was not the absence of God
Genesis 39:2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
Genesis 39:21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
Genesis 39:23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.
His plan is perfect and His timing is right
The life of Joseph pictured the life of Jesus
chosen deliverer (Mt. 1:21)
disliked by His brothers (Mk. 6:3-4)
rejected by His own (Jn. 1:11)
sold for silver (Mt. 26:14-16)
rejection led to deliverance (Lk. 20:17)
ruler of nations (Ph. 2:1-11)
“If God were small enough to understand, He wouldn’t be big enough to worship”
– Evelyn Underhill
God can do great things through us when we trust Him in all our circumstances
