Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (NKJV)
Last week we began our series looking at The Sermon on the Mount. We examined characteristics that should be evident in our lives as Jesus’ disciples. It began with being poor in spirit – realizing our spiritual bankruptcy without God. The rest of the characteristics mentioned in Matthew 5:4-12 are based upon being poor in spirit.
When those characteristics are evident in our lives we will be salt and light in a world that needs Jesus. Salt preserves, flavors and purifies. We are to be salt in this world. Also, our light will not be hidden when we live Christlike lives.
We are called to be salt and light in a world that desperately needs God. Our actions will help others see God. What are you doing this week to be salt and light in your sphere of influence?
Discuss ways your family can impact your world by being salt and light
